So it was a long time coming but this weekend it was time for me to place it in the wall. You see we have been building a house and I was waiting for the last moment before the walls were going to be going in to place my statue of St. Joseph that we used to sell our last home. I wanted to place something sacred and blessed in our home and when I was done I found it had really affected me. It took me back to a lesson with a voice teacher in my misspent youth. I was hell bent on singing an aria from an obscure operetta (yes, it seemed like a good idea at the time) and the teacher was kind enough to help me bring life to this simple melody that the character sang three times. I remember him saying how you had to take each thing that the character spoke of; think of the song as digging for gems and each phrase was another gem that the character had found. Here a diamond, here a ruby and this, an emerald. I think of that as I write, St. Joseph firmly ensconced in the wall of our new house. What gems are out there just waiting to be found in your world and what gems are there hidden inside us that someone else is about to discover and cherish forever,
Your moment of Zen.
